I just got home last night from a week of moving my daughter (and her mountains of stuff!) across four provinces, and found so many wonderful posts waiting for me in my reader! Here are a few that I’m going to have to look at in more depth:
- Jamie Grossman discussed How I Varnish Oil and Acrylic Paintings. It refers specifically to acrylic products, but I saw two ideas I’m going to keep in mind for my soon-to-be studio: using a letter organizer to stand drying panels in, and the use of fans to draw fumes out of the room.
- Ed Terpening talked about the colour of light and shadow in his painting Lands End, San Francisco, and suggested putting a piece of white paper on the ground to help see the colours. He also talked about the need to keep the highlight in shadows darker than the dark parts of the lit areas, a concept which I began exploring here.
- Nina Johansson has been doing some striking self-portraits this week. I particularly liked Runaway eye, which was done with Staedtler triplus fineliners. And my daughter just happened to leave a box of them behind when she moved. Coincidence? Can’t be!
- And now that I finally have a room to create my studio in, James Gurney wrote a great post explaining Studio Lighting, a subject which has confused me every time I’ve to read about it.
Jill, glad to hear my post was helpful! Appreciate the other posts you mentioned as well. Happy paintng.
