Hi Jill,

I'm flattered that you used my tutorial! The reason you didn't have any of the same colors is that I was using Polychromos, and you weren't. :) I think you did a fine job. I think the tomato is pretty good too.
Keep up the good work!!!!

Thanks for the encouragement, Chris! I think perhaps December is a bad time for goal setting - there's quite enough pressure on most of us at this time of year. I'm going to postpone my serious goals, and try to make my art time a relaxing escape for the next few weeks. Your suggestion of going through my old stuff is a good one. I unearthed several paintings as I dug out the room the other day; I'll take a look and see what I can learn from it now.

Your comments sound all too familiar! I have a list of art goals for December, but so far I haven't really got started. When I don't have time for art I feel lost, and when I do have time I waste a lot of it. I do try to have a number of fun/frivolous/general activities on the boil with no goals attached (eg sketchbook, journal) which I can do something in without the pressure of performing.

I would suggest that you keep your old work that doesn't quite make it, put it away somewhere, at least for a while. I enjoy going through my old stuff every few months - often I see improvement, I'm reminded that some things I did weren't that bad after all, and some things may be culled after this review. I find this periodic revision quite inspiring too.

Thanks for posting your thoughts here, I plan to try your idea of filling an old book with gestures for a challenge soon. (After I get my December goals happening!)

Jill,
Thanks for mentioning Mockingbirds at Midnight in your blog. I'm glad you could take something away from it.
Keep working, because even though it's trite to say, art really is about the journey, and not the destination. Some days you like the scenery along the artist road, and others, not so much. But still, keep plodding along. It's worth it.

Oh well maybe one day.... <a HREF="http://fedora-commons.org/confluence/display/~susanbrooks" rel="nofollow"> :)</A>

Go to "Rey Bustos on Blurb"(Google, etc.) and look for my book, Rey's Anatomy/ Blurb/ Arts and Photography section. For anyone interested in a nice supplementary anatomy book. I just self published it and I think that you will enjoy it.
Warmly, Rey Bustos
